Micro?dose placement of phosphorus induces deep rooting of upland rice

چکیده

Upland rice production is often constrained by phosphorus deficiency (P) and drought events. Methods are needed to maximize P use efficiency, while promoting deep root development mitigate drought. This study evaluates micro-dose placement as a technique enhance resilience of upland rice, thereby hypothesizing that enhances development, stimulated the local supply in planting hole, compared broadcast P. Two pot experiments were conducted using deficient soil Tanzania (Expt.1) Madagascar (Expt.2), with factorial combinations doses (control two levels), application method (placement versus broadcast), varieties (DJ123 & NERICA4) water regimes (field capacity drying periods). Micro-dose strongly boosted establishment enhanced recovery rates (4- 5-fold) fertilizer efficiency (9- 14-fold) placements significantly fraction roots found at largest depth (> 30 cm, Expt. 1; >15 2) 22- 33 %. Surprisingly, shoot concentrations markedly lower under than equivalent or biomass, indicating Piper-Steenbjerg effect. first showing rooting after basal placement, suggests replication field scale where subsurface moisture may yield stronger benefits pots. The depleted induced vigorous plant may, however, counteract later growth stages need further attention.

A major QTL controlling deep rooting on rice chromosome 4

Drought is the most serious abiotic stress that hinders rice production under rainfed conditions. Breeding for deep rooting is a promising strategy to improve the root system architecture in shallow-rooting rice cultivars to avoid drought stress. We analysed the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for the ratio of deep rooting (RDR) in three F₂ mapping populations derived from crosses between each o...

Deep rooting conferred by DEEPER ROOTING 1 enhances rice yield in paddy fields

To clarify the effect of deep rooting on grain yield in rice (Oryza sativa L.) in an irrigated paddy field with or without fertilizer, we used the shallow-rooting IR64 and the deep-rooting Dro1-NIL (a near-isogenic line homozygous for the Kinandang Patong allele of DEEPER ROOTING 1 (DRO1) in the IR64 genetic background). Although total root length was similar in both lines, more roots were dist...

Upland Rice and Allelopathy

Upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) is mainly grown in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Yield potential of upland rice is quite low and invariably this crop is subjected to many environmental stresses. Further, when upland rice is grown in monoculture for more than two to three years on the same land, allelopathy or autotoxicity is frequently reported. Allelopathy involves complex plant and plant chem...

Direct and residual phosphorus effects on grain yieldphosphorus uptake relationships in upland rice on an ultisol in West Africa

Phosphorus (P) deficiency is a major constraint to crop production on highly weathered, lowactivity clay soils in the humid zone of West Africa. Past research suggested a linear relationship between grain yield and P uptake over a range of fertilizer P applied to upland rice cultivars. However, there is lack of information on how these relationships are affected by the long-term fertilizer ...

Phosphorus and Iron Deficiencies Influences Rice Shoot Growth in an Oxygen Dependent Manner: Insight from Upland and Lowland Rice

Rice is the main staple crop for one-third of the world population. To maximize yields, large quantities and constant input of fertilizers containing essential nutrients such as phosphorus (P) and iron (Fe) are added. Rice can germinate in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, but the crosstalk between oxygen (O₂) and nutrients such as P and Fe on plant growth remains obscure. The aim of this ...
